Summary on What to Expect in UST-FMS

Campus Life in UST Medical School

According to my friends who are studying in UST, you don't need an organization or fraternity/sorority in order to survive. The best of friends your going to need are simply your classmates :) But just in any case you want to be involved with the student organizations of UST, these are the list of fraternities/sororities/organizations that you can join:
    • Medicine Student Council
    • Alpha Delta Mu Sorority
    • Asian Medical Students’ Association
    • Gamma Beta Epsilon Fraternity
    • Medical Missions, Inc. – Student Group
    • Medicus et Vitae Confraternity
    • Medicine Alliance for the Arts
    • Mu Sigma Epsilon Sorority
    • Phi Sigma Gamma Fraternity
    • Scintilla Juris Fraternity
    • Sigma Beta Tau Phi Fraternity
    • Sigma Tau Delta Sorority
    • Terpsichorean Circle
    • Theta Lambda Phi Sorority
    • UST Filipino-Chinese Medical Students’ Association
    • UST Medicine Glee Club
    • Zeta Beta Mu Fraternity

Facilities, Equipments, and Learning Activities

As much as I want to express my awe in the facilities, rooms, equipments and learning activities of UST through words, I feel that you should just take a look of these videos I found. These next three videos are the required project of each section in the Physiology classes of UST-FMS.

Just a brief background, physiology means the function of something. I guess in my own opinion, the school requires this so that as early as first year medical students, they can sense what's going to come in the next four years. I also guess that this is for team building as well.

May I remind you to pay attention to the rooms, auditoriums, laboratory rooms and the likes of people you will encounter in UST MED.

      Advantages and Disadvantages of UST-FMS

In my own opinion, studying in UST-FMS would mean that you will be part of the institution that generates 50% of the population of the medical community. This is an advantage if you want to be involved in the various organizations during your practice. Also, the use of the modern facilities would help in studying. In my observation, majority of the medical students came from exclusive schools or are from a wealthy family. There are however students who are under scholarship.

The downfall however of UST is that many of their students are not used in practicing in public hospitals. Correct me if I am wrong, but in the medical forums that I have been reading, they cannot cope with the atmosphere in public hospitals since they are used to the modern facilities of their school. Also UST has the highest tuition fee (P101,000/semester) in all of the medical schools in the Philippines. Thus, studying medicine in UST is an investment that requires the commitment of the whole family.

I just hope that my family will be ready to make this commitment, financially.
